Lately, I’ve been sitting with the themes of the Chinese New Year, diving deep into journaling and connecting with the quiet precision of Reiki’s distance symbol, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. Through this symbol, intention can be planted into our subconscious minds, and healing energy can be sent both backward and forward across time and space.
With the upcoming New Moon, Solar Eclipse and Year of the Fire Horse, it feels very timely to tap into Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen and the deep healing it has to offer. This rare threshold in time (17 - 18 February 2026) opens a gateway where we collectively look back on previous cycles, forward to new horizons, as well as pausing to look directly in the mirror, addressing experiences, patterns and beliefs our present self holds tightly.
Sending Reiki energy to the future can increase what many people experience as “luck”. New opportunities, unexpected shifts, and a sense of forward flowing momentum seemingly magnetise toward us. Often what we experience as “luck” is actually just increased inner alignment – our attention, nervous system and energy moving in the same direction as our intentions, hopes and dreams.
Directing healing to the past is different, but equally as magical. It can help us clear emotional heaviness, dissolve energetic cords, and soften trigger points that are still shaping the present moment, our choices and therefore our future.
When using Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen for the present self and subconscious mind, a clear intention goes a long way in channeling Reiki’s energy with precision. Our focus might be directed toward a specific emotion, thought pattern, physical ailment, or maybe something more spacious like peace, creativity or vitality.
Healing the past, present, and future in combination is a powerful way to reset our energetic centres, clear blocks, and realign with our true life's purpose. Here’s how my personal Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen ritual unfolded.
I began with journalling, moving through introspective prompts designed to bring insight and intention for my past, present, and future healing. To prepare my body and energy, I turned to sound healing and meditation, visualising a mirror of time opening within my third eye centre. Using Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen to transcend time, Choku Rei to amplify the Reiki current, and Sei He Ki to support emotional healing, I softened into my self-Reiki ritual.
For the past, my focus settled on my sacral chakra, where I sent Reiki toward two experiences of betrayal, heartbreak, and grief. My solar plexus chakra became the next anchor point. I placed energetic intentions of power, strength, vitality and self belief here. To close, I returned to the sacral chakra, setting future intentions for increased sensuality, flow, joy, and ease. I visualised the essence of my future self, how she will move and be in the days and months to come.
Tarot offered a final layer of reflection. The Two of Swords (reversed) reflected my willingness to sit with and acknowledge past hurt. Strength (reversed) reminded me that power and endurance can also be soft and self-loving, and the Three of Cups whispered of a future filled with connection, celebration, and emotional fulfilment.
