This October, we had the joy of collaborating with Maegan McDowell for a special spring-inspired photoshoot. The day was filled with light, laughter, and creativity as we captured the spring energy of The Healing Room. Reiki Masters Iris and Jess sat down with photographer Maegan to reflect on the experience…
What inspired the spring campaign?
Iris: An inner spark to create and bring the essence of The Healing Room to life! This campaign was a chance to share the unique energy of The Healing Room, our creativity, connection to nature, and healing frequencies as inspiration for ourselves and our clients.
Jess: We wanted it to feel like being at The Healing Room: peaceful, nurturing, and healing. The shoot was also inspired by spring itself: fresh, soft, and playful. We wanted you to step into the images and feel the same sense of calm, connection, and possibility that you feel when you’re with us.
How did it feel being on set that day?
Maegan: Always magic when you’re creating with friends in nature. The forest has its own energy that is all encompassing and calming. But there was an electricity running through all of us, an energy that is always there in co-creation. Full of possibilities.
What was your favourite part of the shoot?
Iris: The light hearted, organised chaos of it all. With plenty of Capricorn energy flowing, we were prepared, comedically towing our massage table down to the waterfall in a beach trolley, iPad and shot list in hand. I loved watching everyone embrace their gifts, with squeals of excitement throughout.
Jess: It’s hard to pick just one moment. I loved the waterfall shots and watching all the little details come together. The giggles behind the scenes, the playful energy, and creating in nature with friends made the whole experience feel like stepping into a storybook.
Maegan: All the tiny moments that came together to create the whole. How we noticeably create together over and over and are always on the same page. It’s hard to pin-point one part, just that behind the scenes we always have a giggle, let our inner children come out to play, and deepen our friendship through creativity.
How did it feel to see the concept unfold in real time?
Iris: It completely exceeded my expectations. We often have a clear vision before a shoot, but Maegan always brings it to life beyond what is imagined. The waterfall shots were a beautiful surprise, we’d planned to focus on the creek, but the waterfall became the breathtaking, ethereal home of our hero image.
Jess: It was pure magic. Watching our ideas take shape, with Maegan bringing them to life, felt like witnessing a dream materialise right before my eyes.
What do you hope people feel when they see this shoot?
Maegan: Always inspiration, I want others to see these images and believe they can have friendships like this, to create like this, to be taken to another place with it. The idea with this shoot from my perspective was that the healing practices Jess and Iris provide do take you to this place of calmness, of nurturance. It’s a good reminder for women to also be in nature, be present, focus on self care, slow down.
